Corn on the Cob

When I was at BYU, I went grocery shopping with my roommate at Smith's one time and she bought corn on the cob. I was super excited because it was packaged and already dehusked and said it came from Somis Farms aka Underwood's Produce, which is like the closest place to the house I grew up in to buy anything, a small produce stand on Highway 118 in Somis, CA. But they produce a ton of food items, and ship them all over, including Smith's Foods in Provo, UT.

So when I was at our local grocery store the other day, Hy-vee, the prepackaged, dehusked corn on the cob was on sale. I don't buy corn on the cob often, and I've never bought it prepackaged and dehusked, so subconsciously I sort of looked at the package to see if it would say "Somis Farms" anywhere. When I realized what I was doing, I had to laugh. I live in Kansas. I drive past fields of corn on a fairly regular basis. They are north, south, east and west of town. We drove past acres and acres of corn on our way to and from Iowa a few weekends ago. I live in corn country (although the University of Nebraska Cornhusker's would probably argue that statement).

Computer Genius

After hours of "live chats" with technical support people from both McAfee and Dell I finally resolved the problem with our new laptop on my own. Well, with a little help from google, an old forum thread on a website called majorgeeks.com and some user called Matacumbie.

I tried to install McAfee the other day since our old one had expired. Everything went nuts. It wouldn't open the McAfee program once it downloaded. Then Windows Media Player wouldn't open either. So I spent a good deal of time both Friday and Saturday nights chatting with technical support from McAfee, and a good deal of today either chatting with Dell Support, or running about a ga-zillion diagnostic tests that took literally FOREVER, all to find that nothing was really wrong.

So I did a google search for my problem. Found some solutions. And everything is fixed. Bravo for me. I should have majored in Computer Science or something. LOL.

My husband keeps tracks of how many counties he's gone to and plans vacations for us around how many new counties we can get. He keeps track of my counties, and our kids as well. He's a geography nut, don't hold it against him. There's a whole community of them online at the Extra Miler Club and at this site.
